Lunch 3 Squared Project

Burger King

I was not looking forward to this meal. I was ready to bail on the 3 day goal and just give my body some time to recoup. I am tempted to spread out the fat grams and bad food over a week perhaps 2 weeks. My good friend Eddy came by and encouraged me to step up to the task at hand. So I soldiered on and he was there with me as I digested this monstrosity of a meal.

There was a silver lining to this story. As we were eating a man (Danny) asked us for money I was more than happy to offer him my meal…he was happy to have it. Thank you Danny! The after meal photo was thanks to dual effort of myself and Danny.

The # 3 squared project. I will be eating my 3 meals in 3 consecutive days from 3 different fast food establishments. Breakfast lunch and dinner.

This is a project that I decided to revisit. The idea is based on the old nutrional concept of 3 square meals a day. The square being one food from the four basic food groups in every meal.

These groups were:

“The Meat Group” – meats, poultry, fish, dry beans and peas, eggs, and nuts;
”The Dairy Group” – milk, cheese, and yogurt; “The Grain Group” – bread, pasta, cereal, “Fruits and Vegetables”

I have mapped out the fast food restaurants that I will be eating at based on several criteria.

  1. Using the “Most Preferred Fast Food Chains list that I got from Experian Simmons (see graph).
  2. Must be able to verbally order from the menu by saying this phrase “Number 3 please” the please is optional.
  3. Eateries must be within 4 square miles of my house.

Which leads us to the list. The 2009 #3 squared fast food eateries. In order of distance from my home.

  1. Wendy’s .54 miles 11711 E Northwest Hwy
  2. Taco Bell .60 miles 9820 Kingsley Rd
  3. Mc Donald’s 2.3 miles 11325 Pegasus St
  4. Arby’s 2.52 miles 9215 Skillman St
  5. Burger King 2.87 miles 11404 E Northwest Hwy
  6. Sonic 2.87 miles 9609 Plano Rd
  7. KFC 2.99 miles 6520 E Northwest Hwy
  8. Long John Silvers 3.39 miles 9375 Forest Ln
  9. Chick Fil A 3.39 miles 9386 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy

3 photos will be taken

1. I will be photographing the meal before consumption as was presented to me by cashier with the addition of any napkins straws or ketchup needed.

2. Meal rearranged and presented by me in order to best show food.

3. Finished meal…wrappers and food scraps akimbo.

I will be compiling staticistical data from each meal. Nutrional information and price per meal.

You can follow my progress and see the results by checking back here on my blog.

I woke up thinking about the entry of my portraits of IDP’s. I looked up some statistics from the UNHCR about their numbers. Some sobering information to start your day.

Analysis of refugee data reveals two major patterns. First, the vast majority of refugees are hosted by neighbouring countries with over 80 per cent remaining within their region of origin.

Second, available information indicates that the number of urban refugees continues to grow. It is estimated that half of the refugee population was residing in urban areas at the end of 2007.

While the number of refugees and IDPs falling under UNHCR’s responsibility was estimated at 25.1 million, available information suggests that a total of 67 million people had been forcibly displaced at the end of 2007 (see box). This includes 16 million refugees, of whom 11.4 million fall under UNHCR’s mandate and some 4.6 million Palestinian refugees under the responsibility of the United Nations

Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The number of IDPs is estimated at 51 million worldwide; some 26 million were displaced as a result of armed conflict and another 25 million were displaced by natural disasters. In addition, while often not considered as being displaced per se, it is estimated that there are some 12 million stateless people worldwide.

Category of forced displacement Total (in mln)

Refugees under UNHCR mandate 11.4

Refugees under UNRWA mandate 4.6

Total number of refugees 16.0

Conflict-generated IDPs 26.0

Natural disaster IDPs 25.0

Total number of IDPs 51.0

Total number of refugees and IDPs 67.0

I am thinking…will anyone ever read this? If a tree falls in the forest onto a computer that is hooked up to the internet does it make a blog?

Here I am inside the world wide web tapping out my first (bloglette- the small entries that make up the entire blog?). Let me begin by apologizing for the bad punctuation that will most certainly be contained in everything I write. Let me layout my goals for this site.

1. Still working on this goal…

2. Share my thoughts and random images that I think are cool

3. Connect with other folks who are like minded

4. Cyberspace domination

5. Share information

6. Have a creative outlet outside of my work website

7. Post lots of cool pictures and other stuff

Thats all for now…
